Scores of graduates from the prestigious Ijebu-Jesa Grammar School across different graduating sets paid homage on the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, Oba Oluwafemi Agunsoye in his palace on Friday 1st October, 2021.
The visit to the monarch was part of the activities lined up for the national reunion of every graduate of the school. This is also preparatory to the 66th anniversary of the establishment of the school.
The team led by the Chairman of the Board of Governing Council of the School, Prof. Kolawole Kazeem who is also the Provost of the Osun State College of Education, Ilesa arrived the palace in their numbers, beaming with loads of enthusiasm as one of their own is now the reigning king of the noble town.
In his welcome address, the oldest member of the team, Ambassador Afolabi Adedipe who graduated from the school about 47 years ago gave glory to God for His grace upon the lives of the members who had traveled down from different works of life to grace the occasion.
He noted that the school which made them, and many more who could not attend is in dire need of intervention in terms of infrastructure and human resources.
Ambassador Adedipe further gave the commitment of the old students to continue to give back to their alma mater. He used the avenue to call on different sets to pick up projects for execution in the school.
Speaking at the forum, Oba Agunsoye eulogised the old students for their supports for him since ascending the throne. He showed the team different items that have been donated to him by different graduating sets.
In reminiscent, Oba Agunsoye who belongs to the 1972/76 set took them down the memory lane back to their school days. He noted how he was initially disappointed when he was named the school’s punctuality prefect. However, he said he went on his knees, prayed, and turned the situation around as he became one of the most effective perfect of his time. He then encouraged them to make good of their various positions in life.
The Chairman of the school’s Governing Council gave the vote of thanks. He appreciated the traditional ruler for always rising to the occasion whenever the need arises to assist the school. He then prayed for the king a long reign on the throne of his forefathers.
